This is a collection of very collectible, higher end kimono ranging in style from furisode, through muji. All of these kimono were made for very specialized usage and occasion.
Furisode - The kimono with the longest sleeve, used by younger females for special and festive occasions, including debutante events and omiai (marriage meetings). The Geisha also helped to popularize this particular style. They are still very much in demand and used today for every coming of age day for young females and their families. The
furisode are often expensive enough to demand being rented as opposed to purchased for this very important family event.
Tomesode - Traditionally known as the mother of the bride or mother of the groom kimono and is still used widely and greatly to that end in traditional Japanese weddings. The tomesode has a particular allure for the American decorator market as it is a very simple, elegant design piece of decorator art.
Iro Muji - A muji was traditionall used primarily for the tea ceremony. They customarily exquisitely crafted works of very plain woven artistry. The silk on the exterior and interior are always of immeasurably high quality.
